I find the most helpful resources in planning travel are the opinions of ordinary people, found in blogs, online forums, and reviews on sites like TripAdvisor. Blogs are particularly enlightening, providing color to a particular establishment or experience that you just can’t get from a guidebook.

I love to eat. I love to travel. I am always seeking the best experience wherever I go. But unlike the recommendations of so many guidebooks on the market today (I’m talking about you, Wallpaper), “best” doesn’t mean $400 a night hotels or chic restaurants where the beautiful people go to nibble. If there is good eating to be had at a street vendor, I’m there. If there’s a charming guesthouse run by a family that is clean and has some sort of unique aesthetic, I’m there. Room service not required.
